PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 10, 2017) - Eduar Lopez allowed one earned run over six innings to lead the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 7-2 win over the Florida Fire Frogs Saturday night at Charlotte Sports Park.
Lopez (5-5) struck out five and did not walk a batter to earn the win. Over his last 14 innings, he has allowed only one earned run on seven hits while striking out 14 (0.64 ERA).
The Stone Crabs (28-31) got the scoring going early against Florida (24-37) starter Drew Harrington (4-6). With no score in the bottom of the second, Brett Sullivan doubled to right before Dalton Kelly moved him to third on an infield single. With runners on the corners, David Rodríguez grounded out to short to score Sullivan and make it 1-0. Jim Haley then reached on a throwing error which allowed Kelly to come home and make the score 2-0.
Still leading by two in the bottom of the third, David Olmedo-Barrera put down a bunt single before advancing to second on a groundout. After a Ryan Boldt single moved Olmedo-Barrera to third, Sullivan drove in a run with a fielder's choice to make the score 3-0.
After the Fire Frogs scored singular runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 3-2, Rodriguez, Haley and Peter Maris all singled with two outs in the sixth to tack on a run and extend the Stone Crabs lead to 4-2.
Still up by that margin in the seventh, Olmedo-Barrera singled to first base. Two batters later, Boldt doubled to left to put runners at second and third. Sullivan then provided knockout blow by dropping a single into right to score both runners and make the score 6-2.
Reliever Dalton Moats went 2.1 innings of scoreless relief before Brandon Lawson came in to get the final two outs and earn his third save of the season.
The Stone Crabs will go for the series split Sunday afternoon at 12:35 p.m. Genesis Cabera (3-5, 3.07) makes the start for Charlotte against Ricardo Sánchez (3-6, 3.76) of Florida. Coverage begins at 12:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
