Louisville Bats Notes: July 28

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Louisville Bats will rebrand as the "Louisville Colonels" for the second straight night as part of Throwback Weekend at Louisville Slugger Field. Left-hander Cody Reed gets the ball for Louisville as it looks to even the series against the Rochester Red Wings. On Friday night, LOU trailed 3-0 after the first inning, ultimately falling 5-3 in the opening game of the three-game set.

AGAINST ROCHESTER: The Bats and Red Wings meet for a three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field after the Bats took two of three games from Rochester at Frontier Field from July 16-18. Louisville began its season-best 9-game winning streak against Rochester on July 17 with a commanding 12-5 win over the Wings. The Bats need to rattle off back-to-back victories if they want to win their first home series against Rochester since 2015 when they went 2-1. Louisville has not won a home and road series against Rochester in the same season since 1999.
SCHEBLER ON REHAB: Major League rehabber Scott Schebler went 1-for-2 with a double, RBI and 2 walks in his third game during his current rehab stint with Louisville. He has appeared as the designated hitter in all 3 games, batting .222 (2-for-9) with 3 walks and one strikeout at the plate.
WALK THE LINE: Bats pitching surrendered 10 walks in last night's 5-3 loss, the most walks the staff has allowed in a single game this season. The previous high of 9 walks had been done twice this season, most recently on June 27 at Columbus, one month ago to the day yesterday, in an 11-10 Bats win.
SEVEN PITCHERS: Louisville used 7 different pitchers on Friday night, tying Tuesday's season-high for most pitchers used in a game this season. Right-hander Zack Weiss started for LOU after originally scheduled starter Keury Mella was called up to Cincinnati. Jesus Reyes, Domingo Tapia, Brandon Finnegan, Evan Mitchell, Tanner Rainey and Kevin Quackenbush all pitched out of the bullpen for Louisville.
SHORT START: Weiss recorded just 2 outs in his start before being pulled from the game for right-hander Jesús Reyes . The 0.2 innings made for the shortest start by a Bats pitcher this season, and the shortest since right-hander Wendolyn Bautista failed to record an out on August 31, 2017 vs. Indianapolis, giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits in an 8-6 loss to the Indians.
YESTERDAY'S MOVES: Right-handed starter Keury Mella and left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta were both recalled to Cincinnati. The 40-man occupants have each pitched in the big leagues, with Mella making 2 appearances for the Reds last season and Peralta being a key piece of the Reds' last bullpen in 2017, making 69 appearances. The Bats also added 3 right-handed relievers to their 25-man roster who have all pitched for LOU already this season: Austin Brice , Rafael De Paula and Evan Mitchell.
