TAMPA, Fla. (May 30, 2017) -Brandon Lowe connected on his team-leading seventh home run of the season Tuesday, but the Charlotte Stone Crabs lost to the Tampa Yankees 7-1 at Steinbrenner Field.
The homer is Lowe's fourth in the last six days. He continues to lead the Florida State League in on-base percentage (.441) and slugging percentage (.608).
In the top of the first, Yankees' designated hitter Jorge Mateo singled to left before Kyle Holder lined a base hits to center. Stone Crabs starter Génesis Cabrera (3-5) then unleashed two consecutive wild pitches, allowing Mateo to score and make it 1-0 Tampa.
With the Yankees still up 1-0 in the third, Lowe clobbered his solo home run to right to tie the game at one.
In the bottom of the inning, Tampa first baseman Chris Gittens singled before Trey Amburgey knocked out a two-run homer to right center to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.
Cabrera then put up two zeroes to finish off his sixth quality start in his last seven outings. The southpaw tossed six innings of three-run ball, allowing four hits and two walks while tying his season-high with seven strikeouts.
With Tampa up 3-1 in the eighth, Stone Crabs reliever Noel Rodriguez gave up back-to-back walks before Nick Solak tripled to the right field corner to make the score 5-1. Solak later scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring at 6-1.
Yankees starter Zack Littell (6-1) tied his season-high with eight strikeouts, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings.
The Stone Crabs will look to even the series in Tampa Wednesday at 7 p.m. Travis Ott (0-0, 4.15) makes the start against Albert Abreu (0-2, 4.50) of the Yankees.
