In the approach to the 2022 Trash Pandas season, we've teamed up with Prospects 1500 to give fans a preview for which players they might see in the Rocket City.
Luke Murphy is a raw, big-framed pitching prospect that looks to make an impact in this organization.
The Angels' 2021 4th round pick served as the closer for Vanderbilt last season. Murphy is known for his big fastball that he can get up to 99mph. He is inconsistent with his secondary pitches - a curveball that he tends to overthrow and a changeup he occasionally has trouble locating.
His delivery is very much like former Angel Yusmeiro Petit in that he has a ton of extension and helps his pitches get on the batter quicker. Murphy will likely start with the Dust Devils but could hit Rocket City early if he happened to develop a secondary pitch this offseason.
The 2022 Trash Pandas campaign gets under way on the road against the Birmingham Barons on April 8th, followed by the home opener at Toyota Field on April 12th against Pensacola. Tickets are still available for opening week, and can be purchased here.
