The Mississippi Braves (24-27) defeated the Biloxi Shuckers (30-21) 11-1 on Tuesday night at MGM Park. RHP Kyle Wright tossed seven innings of one run ball in the win for Mississippi.
The Braves' offense went to work early and often against RHP Thomas Jankins (L, 6-3). Jankins allowed three runs on four hits in the first. Daniel Lockhart started with a triple to leadoff the game and was brought in by Alay Lago's groundout. With runners at second and third and two outs, Alex Jackson provided a two-run single to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fourth, the M-Braves strung together six consecutive two-out baserunners against Jankins and LHP Brad Kuntz. Lago, Tyler Neslony and Travis Demeritte all drove in runs to chase Jankins from the game. The righty allowed eight runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. Kuntz then surrendered a two-run home run off the bat of Tyler Marlette to balloon the lead to 9-0. Neslony finished his night reaching base in all six plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with a pair of walks and three runs scored.
Wright did not allow a hit for the M-Braves until the sixth inning, when Corey Ray punched a one-out single to left field. The lone run allowed by Wright came in the seventh when Trent Grisham singled in Blake Allemand. The 2017 fifth overall pick struck out six over his seven frames, giving up just three hits.
The Shuckers are back at it on Wednesday night at MGM Park at 6:35 PM CT with RHP Cody Ponce (1-3, 4.71) taking on the M-Braves' RHP Touki Toussaint (2-4, 3.58). It's another All-You-Can-Eat Wednesday, where $20 provides fans with a ticket and access to the all-you-can-eat buffet in the Community Bank Terrace. The Shuckers also encourage fans to wear gray to the ballpark for Gray Out In May to bring awareness for brain cancer.
