Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals 1B Malcom Nunez is the organization's Minor League Player of the Month for June. He joins OF Moises Gomez (April) and RHP Gordon Graceffo (April and May) as Springfield Cardinals that have won a St. Louis monthly award this season.

Nunez had an incredible month of June, hitting in 18 of his 23 games with a red-hot average of .381 (32x84), nine home runs, 27 RBIs, two doubles and 12 walks. The 21 year old closed out his torrid month with a solo home run and a base hit on Thursday, June 30.

Nunez's biggest night of them all came on Tuesday, June 28, when he powered a pair of home runs in the 8th inning alone, including the go-ahead grand slam that sent Springfield to the 12-8 win against Wichita.

He led all of Double-A in RBIs (27) and slugging (.726) during June, while leading the Texas League in batting average (.381) and hits (32), and ranking 2nd in home runs (9), OPS (1.180) and total bases (61).

This marks the second time Nunez has been named the Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month, with the first recognition being August 2018 when he was in the Dominican Summer League (Rookie). The Havana, Cuba native was signed by the Cardinals as an International Free Agent on July 3, 2018.
