The win marks the 90th victory of the season for the Whitecaps, a mark they hit for just the second time in West Michigan's 24-year history. The shutout stands as the 28th time the 'Caps have blanked their opponent - extending their previously established Midwest League record, and giving the Whitecaps three shutouts in their last four games.
The scoring was brief on Saturday, as the Whitecaps plated the only two runs of the contest in the first inning.
From that point on, Manning cruised through five innings of scoreless baseball, holding the TinCaps to just two hits and two walks while tying a career-high with nine strikeouts. It was the second time in Manning's career to hit the mark, and the first since June 20 as a member of the Connecticut Tigers.
