BRADENTON, Fla. - A pair of tenth inning scores gave the Palm Beach Cardinals a win over the Bradenton Marauders on Monday night. James Marvel was excellent in a no decision, working through seven innings while matching his season high with seven strikeouts and allowing two runs on nine hits. Marvel did not walk a batter for the fifth time this season through 15 starts and struck out seven for the second time, with the first coming on 6/12 in a complete game against Florida.
Bradenton started their offense right away, scoring their 50th first inning run this year on an Arden Pabst double that scored Casey Hughston from first base. Palm Beach starter Diego Cordero then blanked the home side for 16 straight batters including five consecutive innings facing the minimum. The Cardinals struck for their first two runs in the top of the seventh on a leadoff homer from Andy Young and an RBI double from Danny Hudzina to take a 2-1 lead heading in to the stretch. Hunter Owen immediately tied the ballgame, knocking his eighth long ball of the year to lead off the home half of the inning to tie the game at two.
With a runner starting at second base in the top of the tenth, three consecutive walks (one intentionally) from Ronny Agustin brought in the go ahead run for the visitors, with an additional insurance run plated on a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-2. Bradenton was unable to answer in the bottom of the tenth including a pair of strikeouts against Palm Beach closer Jacob Patterson to move to 5-2 in extra inning contests on the year.
