PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 20, 2017) - Peter Maris' 12th inning base hit helped the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 4-3 walk-off win over the Clearwater Threshers Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.
Maris finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBI and a walk.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the 12th, Stone Crabs (63-61, 32-25) right fielder Ryan Boldt reached on a fielding error before advancing to third on a single from David Olmedo-Barrera . With one out and runners at the corners, Maris stroked a line drive to center to win the game for Charlotte.
Trailing 1-0 early, the Stone Crabs chipped away with three unanswered runs over three separate innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Kevin Padlo singled before Olmedo-Barrera reached on an error. After a walk loaded the bases, Thomas Milone flew out to left to score Padlo and tie the game at one.
Still tied in the fifth, Lucius Fox doubled to left center before Michael Brosseau singled up the middle to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
Up by one in the bottom of the seventh, Brosseau walked before Boldt moved him to second on a bunt single. After Brosseau was thrown out trying to steal, Olmedo-Barrera walked with two outs to put runners at first and second. Maris followed with a single to score Boldt and give the Crabs a 3-1 lead.
With the score the same in the top of the eighth, Clearwater (63-64, 26-31) DH Edgar Cabral clubbed a two-run home run to left to tie the game at three and force extra innings.
Charlotte starter Brock Burke worked 6.1 innings of one run ball. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. Reliever Spencer Jones (2-1) notched three scoreless innings to earn the win.
