PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (June 11, 2017) - Peter Maris went 3-for-3 with a triple, RBI and stolen base to lead the Charlotte Stone Crabs to a 4-2 win over the Florida Fire Frogs Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Stone Crabs (29-31) designated hitter Brett Sullivan led off with a walk before Dalton Kelly dropped a single down the right field line to move Sullivan to third. Two batters later, Jim Haley drove in Sullivan with an infield single to tie the game at one. After Maris singled to load the bases, Thomas Milone drew a bases loaded walk to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead.
The Fire Frogs (24-38) battled back in the third against Stone Crabs starter Génesis Cabrera (4-5). Down by one, Florida right fielder Anfernee Seymour singled and then stole second base. Two batters later, Matt Gonzalez pulled a single into left to score Seymour and tie the game at two.
With Charlotte still down a run in the fourth, Jake Cronenworth hammered a double to the wall in center to start the inning. After Haley bunted him to third, Maris lined a hit into left to give the Stone Crabs a 3-2 lead.
Cabrera finished the day with five innings of one-run ball, striking out seven while allowing only three hits and one walk. He has now struck out seven batters in three straight outings and has allowed one run or less in seven of his last ten.
With the Stone Crabs still up 3-2 in the seventh, Maris began the inning with a triple to center. Two batters later, David Olmedo-Barrera bounced a single up the middle to bring home Maris and cap the scoring at 4-2.
The Stone Crabs bullpen went three perfect innings to seal the victory. Drew Smith worked the seventh and eighth innings while Brandon Lawson earned his fourth save in the ninth.
The Stone Crabs will hit the road Monday for four games in Fort Myers. Travis Ott (1-0, 4.40) is scheduled to pitch Monday for Charlotte. Coverage of the game begins at 6:50 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
