JUPITER, Fla. (July 24, 2017) - Peter Maris homered on back-to-back days and the Charlotte Stone Crabs' starting pitchers went 13 scoreless innings to lead the team to consecutive wins over the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.
Maris connected on a two-run shot off Jake Woodford (5-6) on Saturday and a solo homer against Brennan Leitao (3-2) on Sunday, vaulting the Stone Crabs (46-51, 15-14) to 5-2 and 3-0 wins over Palm Beach (55-41, 15-14).
Charlotte starters Brandon Lawson (3-3) and Brock Burke (2-3) each turned in scoreless performances to earn victories. Lawson notched six shutout innings Saturday, allowing just two hits and one walk while fanning four. Burke went seven innings on Sunday, surrendering four hits and one walk while striking out three.
The Stone Crabs go for the series win over Palm Beach on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Burch Smith (1-0, 3.07) makes the start for Charlotte against Connor Jones (6-4, 4.16) of Palm Beach.
