PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, June 3. Mississippi Braves first baseman, Tyler Marlette and right-handed pitcher, Kyle Wright have been selected for the weekly awards.

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, June 3. Mississippi Braves first baseman, Tyler Marlette and right-handed pitcher, Kyle Wright have been selected for the weekly awards.

Marlette, the 25-year old first baseman, takes home the MS Farm Bureau Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row. Marlette raised his batting average from .274 to .282 (44-for-156) over the course of the week. On the week, Marlette posted a .333 AVG (7-for-21) accompanied by 4 runs scored, one home run, four runs batted in, and four walks. After playing in 48 games with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, Marlette has collected 24 runs scored, 10 doubles, six home runs, 20 runs batted in, 72 total bases, 15 walks, and one stolen base.
Marlette's 24 runs scored, six home runs, and 72 total bases are currently a team best amongst all M-Braves hitters. Marlette is tied with teammates Alay Lago and Luis Valenzuela as the team leader in doubles with 10 on the season. The M-Braves first baseman also leads the team with a .349 on-base percentage, a .462 slugging percentage and a .810 on-base plus slugging percentage. The Oviedo, Florida, native was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Paul J. Hagerty High School (Oviedo, Florida). Marlette signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on December 1, 2017.
Wright, the 22-year old right-handed pitcher who is rated as the No. 2 overall prospect in the Atlanta Braves organization and the No. 26 overall prospect in Minor League Baseball according to MLB Pipeline, finished the week with a 1-1 record and a 3.00 ERA. In 12.0 innings pitched over the span of two starts, Wright allowed 10 hits, four earned runs, issued three walks, and struck out 11. Wright has started a team high 12 games for the Mississippi Braves in 2018. Wright's 12 starts leave him tied with Montgomery's J.D. Martin as the Southern League leader in games started.
Wright leads the Mississippi Braves pitching staff in innings pitched (57.2), and is tied with fellow M-Braves pitcher, Andres Santiago as the team leader in wins (3). A native of Huntsville, AL, Wright was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (fifth overall) in the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of Vanderbilt University.
