BOWIE, Md. – A stellar start by Yunior Marte and clutch hits rocketed the Richmond Flying Squirrels to a 2-0 shutout win over the Chesapeake Baysox at Prince George's Stadium Thursday night.

The Flying Squirrels (68-47, 25-22) gathered their 10th shutout victory of the season, which leads the Eastern League and ranks second in Double-A.

Marte (Win, 2-4) spun six scoreless innings while striking out seven batters. He has notched winning decisions in back-to-back starts and has gone 2-2 with a 2.18 ERA over his last six starts since July 17.

Dale Stanavich slung a scoreless 1.1 innings out of the bullpen and struck out two batters. Marques Johnson (Save, 1) stranded two inherited runners in the eighth and closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth inning.

Chesapeake starter Anthony Eyanson (Loss, 6-1) held Richmond to two hits through the first five innings. Gavin Kilen pushed the Flying Squirrels ahead, 1-0, with an RBI single to right field in the sixth.

The Baysox (55-60, 26-21) had a leadoff single against Marte in the sixth, but a flyout and a double play kept them scoreless.

Richmond extended the lead to 2-0 in the eighth on a two-out single by Dayson Croes, scoring Jean Carlos Sio from third base.

Chesapeake went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.

The start of the game was delayed one hour and 26 minutes due to rain.

The series continues against the Baysox Friday night. Right-hander Miguel Mendez will make his Flying Squirrels debut against Chesapeake right-hander Patrick Reilly (0-2, 5.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.
