OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma – The Texas Rangers have announced that RHP Matt Bush is scheduled to begin a Major League Rehab Assignment with the Round Rock Express starting with tonight’s 7:05 p.m. contest against the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Bush has been sidelined since April 9 with an elbow injury after three appearances with the Rangers to begin the 2021 campaign. The righty had posted no record with a 9.00 ERA (3 ER/3.0 IP), four strikeouts and one walk in limited action prior to the injury. Bush opened the season with Texas, marking his first time pitching at the major league level since 2018.

The 35-year-old has pitched parts of four seasons in The Show, all with the Rangers, after making his major league debut in 2016. Across 139 total games, all in relief, Bush is 10-6 with a 3.47 ERA (54 ER/140.0 IP). He owns 142 strikeouts to just 48 walks while holding his MLB competition to a .236 average and 1.26 WHIP. Bush went 7-2 with a 2.48 ERA (17 ER/61.2 IP) during his rookie season in 2016 following a mid-season promotion from Double-A Frisco before spending the duration of the season with the Rangers in 2017.

Bush then split the 2018 campaign between Texas and Round Rock, where he went 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA (2 ER/9.0 IP) in eight games during his only career action at the Triple-A level. He opened the 2019 campaign with Frisco, posting no record with a miniscule 1.04 ERA (1 ER/8.2 IP) across nine games before undergoing season-ending elbow surgery.

The San Diego native was originally drafted by his hometown Padres with the first overall pick in the 2004 draft as a shortstop but converted to the mound in 2007. He has also spent time within the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays organizations, combining to go 8-6 with a 3.47 ERA (41 ER/106.1 IP) in 82 total games, including a start, in the minor leagues.

Bush and the Express continue their six-game series against the Dodgers tonight at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Downtown Oklahoma City. Round Rock RHP Tyson Miller (3-3, 3.13) is scheduled to face Oklahoma City RHP Andre Jackson (2-1, 5.40) with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Express return home to Dell Diamond on Thursday, September 23 for the final home series of the 2021 season, a five-game set against the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners affiliate), beginning at 7:05 p.m.
