CHARLESTON, SC- Adonis Medina gave up one run over seven innings and the BlueClaws opened their series at Charleston with a 5-2 win Saturday night at Riley Park.
Medina, who threw six scoreless innings against Charleston last Sunday, gave up just one run on six hits over seven innings tonight. It was the third time, and first in the second half, that Medina pitched seven innings. He improved to 4-6 with the win.
Lakewood (13-16/53-46) has won all four games at Riley Park this year and is now 5-2 against the RiverDogs (19-9/53-45).
The BlueClaws got on the board with two runs in the first inning, setu p by a lead-off double from Daniel Brito. With one out, an RBI single from Darick Hall opened the scoring and Henri Lartigue followed with an RBI groundout to put Lakewood up 2-0.
The BlueClaws added two more runs in the third inning, going ahead 3-0 on Hall's RBI double and 4-0 on Lartigue's SAC fly.
Charleston got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Isiah Gilliam off Medina, who did not allow anything else through his seven innings of work. The RiverDogs did threaten in the seventh, when Gilliam led off the inning with a double. However, Medina was able to work out of the jam getting two strikeouts to end the inning and his night.
Charleston starter Rony Garcia gave up four runs in 6.2 innings and took the loss, falling to 0-1.
Will Hibbs threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 12th save, third since returning from Hi-A Clearwater.
With his two RBIs tonight, Darick Hall now leads the league with 73 and is with 18 of Randy Ruiz's single-season BlueClaws RBI record of 91 set in 2004.
The series with Charleston continues on Sunday at 5:05 pm. LHP Nick Fanti (7-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Alex Vargas (0-1).
