(JACKSONVILLE, FL) -- The Charlotte Knights announced three roster moves ahead of the team's opener against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from 121 Financial Ballpark on Tuesday night.

RHP Cristian Mena was promoted to the Charlotte Knights from Double-A Birmingham today. Mena, 20, will get the start tonight for the Knights in game one of a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL. First pitch tonight is set for 7:05 p.m. and the “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com.

Mena, who is currently ranked as the number 10 prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by MLB Pipeline, posted a 7-6 record with a 4.66 ERA in 23 starts with the Barons this season over 114.0 innings pitched. A native of the Dominican Republic, Mena compiled 136 strikeouts this season with the Barons, which currently ranks second in the Southern League this year. Additionally, Mena is among the Southern League leaders in wins (T-7th), ERA (8th), games started (T-2nd), innings pitched (2nd), average against (5th) and WHIP (7th). Mena began the 2023 season ranked as the number six prospect in the Chicago White Sox system as rated by Baseball America.

RHP Nick Nastrini was also promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from Double-A Birmingham. Nastrini, 23, was acquired along with Trayce Thompson and Jordan Leasure by the White Sox in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers for Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn on July 28. With Birmingham this season, Nastrini posted a 3-0 record with a 4.22 ERA over 21.1 innings pitched (four games started). He fanned 31 batters over that four-game stretch. Before joining the Barons, the San Jose, CA native posted a 5-3 record with a 4.03 ERA in 17 games (all starts) with Double-A Tulsa this year. He compiled 85 strikeouts in 75.2 innings pitched with the Drillers this season.

RHP Mike Mayers was placed on Charlotte’s Temporary Inactive List today. Mayers, 31, is 1-3 with a 6.46 ERA in 10 games (five starts) with the Charlotte Knights this season. He was acquired this season in a trade with the Kansas City Royals and assigned to the Charlotte Knights on July 13.
