Mets Fall in Rivalry Opener

Kingsport, TN - The opener of the Big Apple-achian Rivalry Series was a setback as the Mets fell 6-1 to the visitors from Southwest Virginia.
The Yankees were able to capitalize on Kingsport mistakes, scoring five unearned runs thanks to four Kingsport errors and a passed ball.
The lone Met run on the evening was ironically on a Pulaski miscue, as Scott Ota doubled in the third and would come around to score on two wild pitches, the last of which was on a strike three that would have ended the inning if the Yankees catcher could have corralled it.
Kingsport's starter was Benito Garcia, and the young right hander threw the ball well, going 5.1 innings, walking none and allowing no earned runs.
Hector Rodriguez and Nick MacDonald came out of the bullpen and combined to strike out nine Yankees in just 3.2 innings.
However, Kingsport's offense could not get going against a trio of Yankee hurlers.
Game Two in the series is tomorrow evening at Hunter Wright Stadium. The first 300 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative Big Apple-achian Rivalry Series t-shirt.
