BURLINGTON, NC - The Kingsport Mets (19-18) captured the three-game series from the Burlington Royals (11-27) with a 7-6 win on Sunday night.
Kingsport took the lead early, scoring three runs in the second. The Royals got a run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout from Jackson Lueck, making it 3-1.
Neither team scored again until the sixth, when the Mets tallied three times to take a 6-1 advantage. In the bottom of that inning, Burlington got those three runs right back. Jose Marquez, Eric Cole and Freddy Fermin all scored on wild pitches, making the score 6-4 Mets.
The K-Mets got a run back in the seventh, extending the lead back to 7-4. In the eighth, Rhett Aplin drove in Fermin with a single, cutting the deficit to two runs. Michael Emodi hit his first professional home run in the ninth, making it 7-6, but the Royals were unable to push across the tying run.
Burlington will have the day off Monday, before traveling to Pulaski to take on the Yankees for a three-game series. The B-Royals will return home Friday to begin a three-game set against the Princeton Rays.
The Burlington Royals are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
