DURHAM, N.C. – Max Meyer struck out eight over 5.0 perfect innings and Peyton Burdick homered Tuesday to lead the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to a 7-0 triumph at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Meyer (1-0) breezed through his five frames with just 53 pitches before departing with an apparent injury

DURHAM, N.C.Max Meyer struck out eight over 5.0 perfect innings and Peyton Burdick homered Tuesday to lead the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp to a 7-0 triumph at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Meyer (1-0) breezed through his five frames with just 53 pitches before departing with an apparent injury while warming up for sixth inning. He was replaced by Zach Pop, who got the first two outs of the sixth before walking Cal Stevenson to end the perfect game bid. An Isaac Parades single to begin the seventh ended Jacksonville’s (2-5) no-hit bid.

Jake Fishman came on in relief of Pop with two outs and pitched 1.1 perfect innings before Huascar Brazoban pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the Jumbo Shrimp’s first shutout of the season.

Jacksonville got off to a quick start, with Peyton Burdick homering off Durham (2-5) starter Adrian De Horta (0-1) with one out in the first inning.

The Jumbo Shrimp mounted a two-out rally in the second. Joe Dunand singled with two outs before De Horta walked both Brian Miller and Burdick to load the bases. Lewin Díaz then greeted new relieiver Zack Erwin before Lorenzo Quintana laced an RBI double. JJ Bleday’s two-run single made it a 6-0 game in favor of the Jumbo Shrimp.

With the same score in the fifth, Bleday walked before later scoring on a double from Charles Leblanc, who is 9-for-18 to start the season.

The Jumbo Shrimp send LHP Braxton Garrett (0-0, 4.50 ERA) to the mound in Wednesday’s 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
