Michael Kopech Selected To The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game

Kopech will join Yoan Moncada and Zack Collins in representing the White Sox organization in Miami

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham Barons' pitcher Michael Kopech has been selected to represent the Chicago White Sox in the 2017 SiriusXM Futures Game during All-Star Weekend in Miami, Fla. on Sunday, July 9.
"It's an incredible honor and very humbling to be selected to participate in the Futures Game this season," Kopech said. "I'm excited to be able to represent the White Sox organization in addition to performing alongside some of the top, young talent in the game on a national stage."

Kopech, who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox this past offseason as part of the trade for Chris Sale, is 4-4 with a 3.38 ERA overall during the 2017 season. The right-hander has tallied 94 strikeouts in 72 innings, good for second in the Southern League behind teammate Jordan Guerrero's 100.
An original first round pick (33rd overall) out of Mount Pleasant (Texas) High School by the Boston Red Sox in 2014, Kopech spent parts of three seasons in the Red Sox organization, progressed to Class-A Advanced Salem in 2016. Overall with the Red Sox, Kopech went 8-7, with a 2.61 ERA, while striking out 172 in 134.2 innings pitched.
Coming into the 2017 season, Kopech ranked among the Top 50 overall prospects according to Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus and MLB Pipeline. Kopech is currently ranked the No. 2 right-handed pitching prospect and No. 11 overall, according to MLB Pipeline.
"It's a great honor to go and be a part of the Futures Game and we're really thrilled that we had him selected," Barons Manager Julio Vinas said. "We're looking for him to go and have a lot of fun and gain all that experience of being around other guys that are potential big leaguers as well, so hopefully he really enjoys the moment."
Kopech will be joined by infielder Yoán Moncada and catcher Zack Collins in representing the White Sox in Miami. The Futures Game will be held as part of the 2017 All-Star Weekend at Marlins Park at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 9. The game will be broadcasted nationwide on MLB Network and MLB.com, as well as on SiriusXM radio.
