(Reading, PA) – Reading Fightin Phils pitcher Mick Abel has been selected to the All-Star Futures Game, set to take place on Sunday, July 8, at T-Mobile Park, the home of the Seattle Mariners.
Abel is in his second season with the Fightin Phils, after he was called up late in the 2022 season. So far in 2023, Abel is 2-3 with a 4.53 ERA across 12 starts. He leads the R-Phils with 64 strikeouts in 55.2 innings and ranks top-five in the Eastern League with a .198 batting average against.
Across five starts in Reading in 2022, Abel posted a 3.52 ERA and had 27 strikeouts in just 23 innings of work. Abel spent the beginning of the ’22 season with high-A Jersey Shore and made 14 starts in 2021.
The 21-year-old was selected by the Phillies in the first round (15th overall) of the 2020 draft out of Jesuit High School in Portland, Oregon. He has flashed an upper-90s fastball and plus off-speed pitches throughout his time in the Phillies system.
