Delmarva Secures First Walk-Off Victory of the Season
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (38-71, 15-28) opened their series against the Salem RidgeYaks (47-60, 22-20) with a 3-2 walk-off victory.
The RidgeYaks scored first in the top of the second on an RBI single by Skylar King, bringing home Josue Brito and making it 1-0.
In the third, the Shorebirds tied the game on Eric Booth Jr.'s first career hit, which scored Juan Ortega and made it 1-1. Jaiden Lo Re then put Delmarva in front 2-1 with an RBI groundout, as Ty Head crossed home plate.
Francisco Morao gave Delmarva a strong outing in his first Single-A start, throwing 4.2 innings, striking out four with no walks, and giving up one unearned run on three hits.
Salem tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single by Louis Andujar that scored Wills Maginnis, evening the score at two.
It remained deadlocked at two into the ninth inning, thanks to a strong effort from Andrew Herbert, who tossed 4.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts and retiring 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.
In the bottom half of the ninth, the Shorebirds loaded the bases with back-to-back walks, putting the winning run at second. Miguel Rodriguez did the rest with a game-winning single up the middle to score Jemone Nuel, giving the Shorebirds their first walk-off win of the season, 3-2.
Andrew Herbert (5-3) was the winning pitcher for Delmarva, while Yermain Ruiz (3-3) took the loss for Salem.
The Shorebirds seek a second straight win over the RidgeYaks on Wednesday, with KK Clark making his third start for Delmarva against Christian Foutch for the RidgeYaks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
