Spring Breakout

Spring Breakout games are this week, with the Phillies playing on both Thursday against the Twins and Saturday against the Blue Jays (there are an odd number of Florida teams so one will play two Spring Breakout games, and this year, it's the Phillies). Game Highlights

Thursday, March 12th vs the Blue Jays

Game One

  • RHP Jean Cabrera started and threw three scoreless innings with six strikeouts among the 10 batters he faced.
  • Alex McFarlane threw a scoreless fourth and hit 100 mph.
  • RHP Jack Dallas also threw a scoreless inning.
  • LF Bryson Ware had a hit and two RBIs while C Rene Pinto had two hits and three RBIs.

Game Two

  • RHP Luke Gabrysh started and threw two innings, allowing two runs with three strikeouts. RHP Jaydenn Estanista, back from the WBC, gave up one run over his two innings of work.
  • RHP Saul Teran threw a scoreless inning as did LHP Cristhian Tortosa, who struck out three.
  • CF Devin Saltiban had three hits, two stolen bases, and an RBI while 1B Brock Vradenburg had two hits. RHP John Spikerman had one, a triple.

Game Three

  • 2B Nolan Beltran had two hits, both doubles, and drove in three. DH Anderson Araujo was 2-3 as well.
  • RHP Luis Gonzalez struck out three over his two innings of work.

Friday, March 13th vs the Blue Jays

Game One

  • RHP Ryan Cusick started and gave up two hits over three scoreless innings, adding three strikeouts.
  • RHP Ryan Dromboski (Northern Burlington Regional High School) threw three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
  • DH Alex Binelas had two hits while LF Dylan Campbell and 3B Robert Moore each had one.

Game Two

  • SS Matthew Ferrara (Toms River East) had two hits, a double, three RBIs, and a stolen base.
  • C Alirio Ferrebus had two hits off the bench.
  • 1B Brock Vradenburg homered while LF Jack Barker went 2-2 with a double.
  • LHP Cade Obermueller (2nd round, Iowa) struck out four over two scoreless innings. RHP Sean Youngerman (4th round, Oklahoma State) gave up one run in two inning swith two strikeouts.
  • RHP Gabe Craig (5th round, Baylor) threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

(There were only two games on Friday.)

Sunday, March 15th vs the Blue Jays

Game One

  • Aroon Escobar went 2-3 with a double. Carson DeMartini had four hits, three doubles. Bryan Rincon had three hits, a double, and two RBIs.
  • RHP Alex McFarlone had a 1-2-3 inning and once again touched 100 mph.

Game Two

  • John Spikerman had a double and a walk in his four plate appearances. Devin Saltiban, who had three hits on Thursday, had two more on Sunday including a home run.
  • Brock Vradenburg had a double and an RBI.
  • RHP Connor Gillispie started and gave up one run in 3.1 innings.
  • RHP Braydon Tucker threw three scoreless innings, adding three strikeouts.

Game Three

  • Matthew Ferrara (Toms River East) had a double in his four at bats. Juan Villavicencio homered. Angel Mata and Carter Mathison each added two hits.
  • Raider Tello had a double and two RBIs.
  • RHP Gage Wood (1st round, Arkansas) started and threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
  • RHP Sam Highfill threw two scoreless innings of his own with three strikeouts.
  • RHP Marty Gair struck out two of the six batters he faced while RHP Jose Pena threw a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.
