PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (17-15, 46-56) were narrowly defeated by the Mobile BayBears (12-20, 49-51) by a final score of 1-0 at Trustmark Park on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Atlanta Braves No. 2 overall prospect, Kyle Wright provided the M-Braves with one of his best performances of the season en route to his 10th quality start of the season. Six of Wright's last seven starts have been quality including all four in July. Wright tossed 8.0 innings and allowed just four hits, one run, which was earned, issued two walks and struck out four. The 22-year old right-hander becomes the first M-Braves pitcher to log an eight-inning outing since Mike Soroka did so on June 5, 2017 against the Biloxi Shuckers.
The lone run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning when Mobile right fielder, Brendon Sanger sent a solo home run over the right center field wall. For Sanger, his solo shot in the top of the fifth inning of Wednesday night's contest was his fourth with the BayBears in 2018.

Wednesday night's contest was the definition of a pitchers' duel as Mississippi and Mobile combined for a mere six hits. Mobile recorded four hits in the contest while Mississippi recorded two. Shortstop, Ray-Patrick Didder provided the M-Braves with their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after singling on a bunt to third base. Third baseman, Daniel Lockhart collected the M-Braves second hit in the bottom of the ninth inning when he singled on a ground ball to first base.
Mobile starter, Jeremy Beasley (2-2, 2.74) earned the win while Wright (6-8, 3.70) suffered the loss despite a valiant effort on the mound. Mobile reliever, Daniel Procopio was credited with a hold, his third of the 2018 season and Matt Custred was credited with his sixth save of the season.
The M-Braves and the BayBears will go toe-to-toe again on Thursday night (July 26th) in game four of the five-game series at Trustmark Park. LHP Ricardo Sánchez (1-3, 5.27) will get the nod for the M-Braves on Thursday night. Sanchez will square off against BayBears RHP Alex Klonowski (5-2, 4.68.)
Promotions for Thursday night's game will include, Thirsty Thursday (canned domestic beer and 16 oz. fountain drinks will be $2 each) and Mississippi State Night presented by Farm Bureau (wear your Bulldog attire to the game and receive a Field Level ticket for only $6!)
The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
