Mississippi loses heartbreaker to Pensacola in 10

M-Braves can't hold off Blue Wahoos in series opener

PEARL, MS -- After two rainouts at home to end the series with Biloxi last week, the Mississippi Braves (14-35, 48-71) and Pensacola Blue Wahoos (24-27, 64-57) appeared to be headed the same direction with rain keeping both teams off the field all day. But after a 37-minute delayed start,

But after a 37-minute delayed start, the M-Braves and Wahoos put on a show in a 10-inning thriller that saw the visitors come out on top 5-4.
Mississippi sent Kolby Allard to the mound against Deck McGuire for Pensacola, and the two did not disappoint in their duel. Allard went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine batters with no walks. The lefty did not factor in the decision, but posted another quality start. McGuire was almost as good, allowing three runs on six hits, two walks and six strikeouts in five-plus innings.

The M-Braves bullpen was unable to hold on to the slim lead it inherited, however, as Pensacola scored two runs in the eighth off Devan Watts to take a 4-3 lead on Mississippi. The M-Braves answered in their half of the eighth, scoring the tying run but leaving the bases loaded in the inning.
In extras, the BlueWahoos took advantage of a walk with a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run on reliever Corbin Clouse and secure the victory.
Offensively, the M-Braves were led by Austin Riley and Alex Jackson who both had two-hit games. Jackson picked up his second homer in as many games, a solo shot in the second that gave Mississippi the lead. Jared James, Joey Meneses, Travis Demeritte and Tyler Neslony each added a hit, but it wasn't enough as Pensacola slipped past the M-Braves 5-4 in 10 innings.
