ERIE, PA - For a second straight night, the Erie SeaWolves (13-12) belted three home runs against the Bowie Baysox (7-22) and took a two-to-one series advantage with a 6-1 win, on Friday night at UPMC Park. The SeaWolves had just 10 home runs through the first 23 games of the season and have now hit six in the past two nights.
Starter Casey Mize, following a no-hitter on April 29 at Altoona, was strong in his home debut. Across 5.0 innings, the right-hander allowed one unearned run on two hits, while striking out four and walking none. He has now allowed just one earned run in 40.0 combined innings in 2019.
Daniel Pinero led the offense, blasting a two-run home run off the Erie Insurance Arena in the first, his second of the year. He would later record his third, a solo shot to left in the seventh. In his 311th minor league contest, Pinero registered his first career multi-homer game.
Kody Eaves slugged his third long ball of the season in the fourth, a two-run blast to right that was a part of a three-run inning to essentially put the game away. Eaves now leads the SeaWolves with 16 runs batted in.
The bullpen was strong again, not allowing a run across 4.0 combined innings. Liarvis Breto twirled the first three, walking just one and striking out four. Ethan DeCaster, in his second Double-A appearance, worked a scoreless ninth and struck out the side. It has now been 10 days (April 24) since the bullpen allowed an earned run.
Tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 p.m. ET, Erie will try to close out the series with RHP Matt Manning (2-1, 2.83 ERA) on the mound. Coming off his first loss of the season, Manning shall face RHP Marcos Molina (1-3, 4.03 ERA) and the game can be heard on Fox Sports 1330 WFNN, SeaWolves.com, TuneIn and seen on MiLB.TV.
