Moonshiners Bootlegged by Spikes

Granville, W. Va. - On a cool night at Monongalia County Ballpark, the West Virginia Moonshiners fell to the State College Spikes 12-3.
 
This was the second night that West Virginia wore its alternate jerseys, celebrating the rich history of moonshining in the state.
 
State College started things off with three runs in the first inning off three singles to take an early lead. After picking up another run in the second inning, West Virginia trailed 4-0 in the ballgame.
 
Then in the third inning, the Moonshiners got on the board. RF Edison Lantigua opened up with an RBI triple to give West Virginia its first run of the ballgame. Then withLantigua on third, CF Travis Swaggerty doubled down the first base line to bring home another run.
 
1B Jhoan Herrera contributed with an RBI groundout of his own to cut the Moonshiners' deficit to 4-3 after three innings.
 
That's when the floodgates opened for State College. The Spikes put together eight runs through four innings, taking a commanding 12-3 lead at the end of the seventh.
 
West Virginia struggled equally as much at the plate as the team did on the mound. The Moonshiners scraped together only six hits, with half of those coming in the third inning.
 
One bright spot for West Virginia was P Logan Stoelke. The righty reliever struck out State College in order, bringing his consecutive scoreless appearance streak to five straight games.
 
Both team are back in action for the series finale tomorrow night at Monongalia County Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
