Muckdogs Walk Past Scrappers

Batavia, NY- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers pitching staff set a new season high by issues 11 walks and the Batavia Muckdogs took full advantage in a 10-6 Muckdogs win. The loss marks the fourth straight loss for Mahoning Valley.      
            Batavia plated five runs in the first inning with help from the Scrappers. Mahoning Valley committed an error and walked three Batavia hitters, all four would come around to score.
            The Scrappers got a run back in the top of the second inning on a Simeon Lucas solo homerun. It was Lucas' third homerun of the year.  
            In the top of the fourth inning the Scrappers would cut the deficit to two runs. Nolan Jones singled and Ulysses Cantu doubled, putting runners at second and third. A wild pitch would allow Jones to score. Cantu would also come in to score on an RBI groundout from Will Benson.
            After Batavia pushed the lead out to 7-3, the Scrappers would get to within a run in the top of the fifth inning. Tyler Friis reached on an error to start the inning and Austen Wade followed with an infield single. With two outs Cantu singled to drive home Friis and Wade. Cantu would also score on an RBI double by Lucas to bring the score to 7-6.
            The Muckdogs would then pull away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and another run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
            Sam Hentges (0-1) started and took the loss after getting just two outs in the first inning. He allowed five runs, two earned, on two hits. Hentges walked three. Ping-Hsueh Chen would follow with 1.1 innings of relief. Chen allowed one hit. He walked one and struck out one. Felix Tati went 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. Tati allowed four earned runs on four hits. He walked five and struck out four. Randy Valladares followed with 2.0 innings of work. He allowed one unearned run without allowing a hit. Valladares walked two and struck out two. Riley Echols went the final inning without allowing a baserunner.
            The Scrappers and Muckdogs continue their series on Thursday night at 7:05 from Batavia. Gregori Vasquez will get the start for Mahoning Valley.
