Myrtle Beach Stuns Augusta with Big Ninth Inning

GreenJackets Suffer Gut-Wrenching Defeat in Game Three

*NORTH AUGUSTA, SC: *The Augusta GreenJackets (9-16) fell to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for the second consecutive night in gut-punching fashion as the Pelicans used a big ninth inning to snatch a win away from the GreenJackets by a score of 8-4.

In the second inning, the Pelicans took the lead on an RBI double by Ethan Hearn with a sacrifice fly by Alejandro Rivero right behind that to give Myrtle Beach a 2-0 lead.

The game would turn into a pitcher's duel as it remained 2-0 into the sixth inning but Augusta evened the score with Eliezel Stevens starting a rally with a triple off the wall in straightaway center to begin the frame. He would come home on an RBI groundout by Geraldo Quintero to make it a 2-1 ball game. One batter later, Augusta tied the game courtesy of a solo homer by Francisco Floyd for his first home run with the GreenJackets.

The Pelicans retook the lead in the next half inning thanks to an RBI single by Kevin Alcantara with two out to push Myrtle Beach back in front 3-2.

With the score still 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Victor De Hoyos wasted no time tying the game as he cranked a home run to left field on the first pitch of the inning to knot the game at three. Augusta would then proceed to take the lead without the benefit of a hit thanks to two walks and a hit batter to load the bases. With a 3-2 count on Brandon Parker, he was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run to give the GreenJackets their first lead at 4-3.

But Myrtle Beach would then come back in the ninth with a huge final inning as they scored five runs on a pair of two-run doubles by Ezequiel Pagan and Kevin Alcantara. Alcantara would then score on a wild pitch to cap off a five-run top of the ninth for the Pelicans to put Augusta in their deepest hole of the night at 8-4.

The GreenJackets would go down in order in the bottom of the ninth as Myrtle Beach handed Augusta a tough defeat by a score of 8-4.

Angel Hernandez (2-1) earned the win in relief for the Pelicans with Rob Griswold (3-4) taking the loss for Augusta.

The GreenJackets take another crack at Myrtle Beach on Friday night with Jorge Bautista drawing the start for Augusta versus Tyler Santana for the Pelicans. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
