Nevin's homer caps off comeback Friday

Two-run home run in eighth inning leads Lancaster to another win

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks did not lead until the bottom of the eighth inning in a comeback victory over the Modesto Nuts Friday night at The Hangar. Tyler Nevin's two-run home run gave Lancaster a 6-5 victory, the team's third in a row.

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks did not lead until the bottom of the eighth inning in a comeback victory over the Modesto Nuts Friday night at The Hangar. Tyler Nevin's two-run home run gave Lancaster a 6-5 victory, the team's third in a row.

Trailing by a run, Lancaster (10-6, 43-43) rallied to take the lead in the eighth inning. Vince Fernandez led off with a double against Modesto's Anthony McIver (0-3). Nevin followed with a towering blast to give the JetHawks their first lead of the night.
Reid Humphreys finished the game off with a scoreless ninth inning, giving him 19 saves on the season. Bryan Baker (2-1) earned the win after a scoreless inning in relief.
Modesto (4-12, 34-52) jumped in front early, but could not hang on. The Nuts scored three in the second inning to take their first lead of the five-game series. Luis Liberato got things started with a home run.
Gareth Morgan added his 14th home run of the year in the fourth inning. Liberato added an RBI double in the fifth to push Modesto's lead back to three at 5-2.
Max George got the JetHawks on the board in the third inning with a solo home run, and Brian Serven singled home a run in the fourth. Down by three in the fifth, Colton Welker smacked a two-run double to cut the Modesto lead to one.
Welker's two knocks extended his hitting streak to 10 games. The JetHawks got two hits from four players in the lineup. The win was Lancaster's ninth in eleven games against Modesto. Lancaster has won three in a row and has it's overall record back to .500 at 43-43.  
The five-game series continues Saturday night. David Hill (2-4) starts for the JetHawks opposite Modesto's Colin Rodgers (3-4). First pitch is set for 6:05 pm at The Hangar.
