Portland, Maine- Nick Bush fired seven scoreless innings and Aaron Schunk drove in three runs as the Yard Goats shutout the Portland Sea Dogs 4-0 on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. Bush retired the final 19 batters to earn his fifth win of the season. The victory improved the first-place Yard Goats to a franchise best 34-19 record, and Hartford has won a season-high five consecutive games.
The Yard Goats scored two runs in the first inning off Sea Dogs starter Chris Murphy. Ezequel Tovar walked, Kyle Datres singled and Michael Toglia belted an RBI double, scoring Toglia, giving Hartford a 1-0 lead. Aaron Schunk followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
The Yard Goats added a pair of runs in the sixth inning off Murphy. Kyle Datres singled and Michael Toglia followed with a double. Aaron Schunk then came up with a two-run double, scoring Datres and Toglia to make it 4-0. Murphy finished with 11 strikeouts.
The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs will play the third of a six-game series on Thursday night (6:00 PM) at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Jay Groome will start for the Sea Dogs.
