A late rally by the Biloxi Shuckers (11-18) came up just short in a 7-6 defeat to the Montgomery Biscuits (12-16) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Trailing 7-4 going to the ninth, Mitch Longo led off the inning with a single up the middle, but LHP Ivan Pelaez (S, 7) induced a double play ball from David Fry to cancel out the Shuckers base runners. Working with only one out, Cam Devanney cranked a solo home run to left field, his second of the year, to bring Biloxi within two at 7-5. Ryan Aguilar was then hit by a pitch and Tyler Friis singled down the left field line to put runners on the corners. Brice Turang followed with a single up the middle, driving in Aguilar to make it a one run game. With the tying run at second, Payton Henry stepped to the plate, but flied out to right to end the ballgame.

Biloxi jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning for the third time in the series. Turang and Henry drew back-to-back walks and Lucas Erceg followed with a double to the left field gap, driving in both runners to put the Shuckers ahead 2-0. Montgomery responded with a two-run home run from Moises Gomez to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

RHP Jesus Castillo (L, 0-1) allowed a solo home run to Rene Pinto to start the bottom of the second, putting the Biscuits ahead 3-2. A pair of doubles added another run for Montgomery to stretch their lead to 4-2.

The Shuckers moved within a run in the top of the fourth after Longo was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single from Fry. However, Montgomery moved back in front by three runs in the home half of the frame on a two-run homer by Joey Roach, extending the Biscuits back to a 6-3 advantage.

Aguilar led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run, one of two runs allowed by Biscuits RHP Tobias Myers (2-1). The righty would retire the last eight Shuckers batters to close out his outing. Montgomery scored their final and deciding run in the top of the sixth on a pair of errors by the Shuckers.

The Shuckers close out their six-game series with the Biscuits on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. In a rematch of game one of the series, Biloxi is scheduled to send LHP Ethan Small (1-1, 3.27) to the mound against Biscuits’ RHP Tommy Romero (0-0, 0.64) for a 3:33 pm first pitch. The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9, online here or on the MiLB App.
