No Minor League Baseball for the 2020 Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following the announcement from Minor League Baseball this afternoon, there will be no Minor League Baseball this season.

Minor League Baseball has released the following statement regarding the 2020 season:

“Major League Baseball™ (MLB™) has informed Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB™) that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a Minor League Baseball season in 2020.

These are unprecedented times for our country and our organization as this is the first time in our history that we’ve had a summer without Minor League Baseball played,” said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O’Conner. “While this is a sad day for many, this announcement removes the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season and allows our teams to begin planning for an exciting 2021 season of affordable family entertainment.”

The Birmingham Barons are saddened to not see Southern League baseball at Regions Field this summer. However, during this unprecedented time the Barons have been working diligently with city officials and the Jefferson County Department of Health to ensure that Regions Field is a safe environment for guests as the club moves forward with the Summer Series and other special events that the field will host throughout the course of this year.

“We are disappointed we will not host a 2020 Birmingham Barons season at Regions Field this summer. During this time, we have appreciated everyone’s patience, desire and enthusiasm regarding a Barons 2020 season,” said Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson. “We look forward to continuing the tradition of Barons baseball at Regions Field in 2021.”

The Barons look forward to releasing the 2021 baseball schedule later this year.
