After opening the 2022 season with a win, the Sea Unicorns would fall on hard times losing their next four games. Just under a week since their last win, the Norwich bats came to life late to steal a victory in the Hardware city.

On the mound for the second time this season, John Ruggiero did not disappoint in his second outing for Norwich. The right-hander went six innings striking-out six Bees batters, eventually retiring ten in a row. Ruggiero is tied for first in strikeout leaders with 11 on the season.

After recording three hits in his season debut last night in Westfield, catcher Tyler Kipp recorded another two hits both singles. He was driven-in both times.

Connor Podeszwa and Nick Sturino both had impressive days at the dish, each recording a double. Sturino’s discipline was sharp as he worked three walks from the nine spot in the order. Podeszwa himself had three hits including the double. Podeszwa will take a break from the diamond tomorrow as he makes his second start of the year on the mound.

With college and high school seasons coming to an end, more players will start fluctuating to Norwich. One of those players is Alex Irizzary who made his Futures League debut today. The Maryland commit recorded one hit, an RBI single in his debut.

After losing the lead in the ninth inning, the Sea Unicorns would go on to score four runs, including an RBI single by Jared Zimbardo. This eventually led to Jordan Marot shutting the door for Norwich’s second win of the year.

The Sea Unicorns return home for the second time tomorrow for the first Thirsty Thursday of the year as they welcome the Worcester Bravehearts, first pitch is slated for 6:30pm.
