The Biloxi Shuckers (50-37) earned their 50th win of the season with a 12-2 drubbing of the Jackson Generals (45-42) on Monday night at MGM Park. Corey Ray tied a season high with five RBI, as Biloxi improved to 15-1 in games started by RHP Zack Brown (W, 8-0)
Troy Stokes Jr. started the scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, his 13th on the year. Jackson answered back quickly with a pair of doubles from Rudy Flores and Jay Gonzalez to tie the game in the second.
In the bottom of the second, Biloxi responded by taking a lead they would not relinquish. With the bases loaded and two outs, Ray delivered the first of two RBI-knocks, this one a three-run triple to give the Shuckers a 4-1 lead. They tagged two more runs against starter RHP Joel Payamps (L, 7-3) in the fourth. Trent Grisham scalded a triple to right to score Tyler Heineman from first, which Luis Aviles Jr. Jr. promptly followed with a double to put Biloxi up 6-1. Payamps allowed six earned runs over five innings.
Brown turned in a quality start of six innings and two runs while fanning five to earn his eighth win, tied for the Southern League lead. Meanwhile, the bottom of the order set the table all night long. Working through the lineup nearly five times, the five through eighth spots in the Shuckers' order went 7-for-12, scoring 10 of the offense's 12 runs while drawing seven walks. Aviles Jr. provided three RBI, while Grisham and Heineman each scored thrice. Ray's two-run single in the seventh netted him five RBI for the second time this season.
LHP Brad Kuntz and RHP Jon Perrin each turned in scoreless outings in relief of Brown to lock down the win.
The Shuckers look for a series win in the third of four games against Jackson on a Brew Crew Tuesday presented by Miller Lite at MGM Park at 6:35 PM CT. RHP Trey Supak (0-5, 4.93) duels the Generals' RHP Bo Takahashi (0-3, 7.04).
