Offense has Another Big Night Led by Amaya

Springfield, MO – One night after setting a new season high for hits in a game, the Tulsa Drillers surpassed that total by accumulating 18 hits Saturday night. Jacob Amaya led the Drillers offense with two home runs and six RBI in the Drillers 16-8 win over the Springfield Cardinals

Springfield, MO – One night after setting a new season high for hits in a game, the Tulsa Drillers surpassed that total by accumulating 18 hits Saturday night. Jacob Amaya led the Drillers offense with two home runs and six RBI in the Drillers 16-8 win over the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field.

The Drillers at one point led the game 15-1, but the Cardinals scored seven runs in the final three innings to account for the final score.

The Drillers began their big first inning with four consecutive hits to plate the first run. A balk from Springfield starting pitcher Domingo Robles scored Tulsa’s second run. Amaya followed with a double to right field that scored two more runs for a 4-0 lead.

Amaya gave the Drillers a 5-0 lead in the fourth with a solo home run, his second of the season. James Outman added two more runs with a two-run blast, his fourth of the season.

In the fifth, the Drillers scored six runs that came on an RBI double by Amaya, a two-RBI double from Kody Hoese and a three-run home run off the bat of Michael Busch, bringing the score to 13-0.

Julio Rodriguez gave Springfield its first run of the game with a solo home run.

Amaya hit his second home run in the sixth inning giving the Drillers two more runs for a 15-1 lead.

The Cardinals scored two more runs on just their second hit of the game with a home run to center field.

In the eighth, Springfield plated four more runs on two walks and three singles to bring the score to 15-7.

Tulsa added one final run in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Andy Pages.

The Cardinals added a final run in the ninth on Irvin Lopez’s RBI double.

HIGHLIGHTS AND HAPPENINGS:

*The Drillers set a new season high with 16 runs scored.

*Amaya finished the game going 5-5 with two home runs and six RBI. The last time a Drillers player went 5-5 in a game was Edwin Rios in 2017 against the Arkansas Travelers.

*Amaya’s two home runs marks the second consecutive night that a Tulsa batter hit two home runs in a game. Ryan Ward accomplished that feat in Friday’s game.

*Outman, Busch, Hoese and Devin Mann each had two hits in the game.

*All of the Drillers runs in the fifth inning were unearned.

*Starting pitcher John Rooney earned his second win of the season, tossing five innings. He also picked off two Springfield baserunners in the game.
