The offense continued to struggle for the Nashville Sounds in a 5-0 loss to the San Antonio Missions Monday night at First Tennessee Park. Nashville managed only four hits in the setback.
Nashville went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and have not collected a hit with a runner in scoring position since Saturday night. The issues started tonight after Eli White doubled to start the bottom of the first inning but was stranded after a pop out and two strikeouts.
San Antonio struck first when they plated three runs in the top of the second. Tyrone Taylor started it with a double and later scored on a groundout by Lucas Erceg. Moments later, Troy Stokes Jr. drilled a two-run homer to left field to give the Missions a 3-0 lead.
Nashville starter Richelson Peña quickly recorded the first two outs of the third but San Antonio designated hitter Keston Hiura crushed a long home run to left field to make it a 4-0 game.
Nashville's offense never threatened to cut into the lead. Willie Calhoun doubled to start the sixth inning but the next three batters were retired in order. Zack Granite had a pair of hits for the Sounds.
The Sounds have a day off Tuesday before traveling to Des Moines, Iowa to begin a five-game series with the Iowa Cubs Wednesday night. First pitch in game one of the set is scheduled for 6:38 p.m.
