For a few brief moments, the Ogden Raptors held the advantage on the Pioneer League Southern Division-leading Orem Owlz. Three times the visiting Raptors went on top, only to see the host Owlz energize their crowd with comebacks before putting the game out of reach and claiming an 11-9 win Sunday evening at the Home of the Owlz.
Ogden got out to a quick lead, as Nick Yarnall scored Brayan Morales with a first-inning sacrifice fly. Orem tied the game in the home half on a two-out single, but 2017 draftee Tyler Adkisson knocked in fellow Los Angeles Dodgers draft pick Zach Reks on another sac fly in the second.
The Owlz took the lead with three second-inning runs, but an Adkison double, a groundout and a balk scored a trio of Raptors in the fourth for a 5-4 lead.
Orem tied the game in the bottom of the fourth before batting around in the fifth, scoring six runs on four hits and three walks.
Ogden trailed by six until the eighth, when with two out Michael Medina smashed his league-leading sixth double of the young season. He scored on a Hendrik Clementina single, and then Luis Paz launched his second two-run homer in three games to make it a three-run ballgame.
In the top of the ninth, Morales led off with a walk and sprinted all the way around the bases on a Moises Perez double to draw within two. The next three batters all represented the tying run, but they were retired to end the game.
After one more game in Orem, the Raptors will be back at Lindquist Field Tuesday, June 27th, to start a seven-game homestand against all three of their Pioneer League Southern Division opponents.
Tuesday will be a "Taco Tuesday, with $1 tacos available all night long while they last. Wednesday will see another edition of "Ugly Outfit Wednesdays", with prizes such as Raptors shirts and caps and a $100 gift card being awarded to fans wearing their worst.
