The Baltimore Orioles have announced the Opening Day roster for its remaining minor league affiliates ahead of the 2022 season, including the Bowie Baysox. The 27 man roster will take the field later this evening on April 8th to begin the regular season against the Richmond Flying Squirrels
The only changes made from the initial "break camp" roster include the addition of Antonio Velez, a left-handed pitcher aqcuired from the Miami Marlins in a trade only five days ago, and the subtraction of right-handed pitchers Ryan Conroy and Matt Vogel, who have both been transferred to Triple-A Norfolk.
With the recent announcement by MLB Pipeline naming the Orioles as the best farm system in Minor League Baseball, fans will have the opportunity to see some of the best prospects in the game. The Baysox feature INF Gunnar Henderson, currently the only player on Top-100 Prospects list, at #64. The remaining players among the Top-30 Prospects of the Orioles include INF Jordan Westburg (#6), INF Joey Ortiz (#15), OF Hudson Haskin (#16), LHP Drew Rom (#17), and RHP Adam Hall (#28).
Following the trend of the Orioles’ draft success, only one former first round pick opens on the Bowie roster. Jordan Westburg, the 30th overall pick in the 2020 draft, was a competitive balance selection before the second round. With his selection, Westburg became the highest drafted shortstop in the history of Mississippi State University.
Overall, 14 players listed spent time with Bowie in 2021. This includes Cameron Bishop, Tyler Burch, Ryan Conroy, Andrew Daschbach, Shayne Fontana, Logan Gillaspie, Gunnar Henderson, Morgan McSweeney, Joey Ortiz, Cody Roberts, Drew Rom, Garrett Stallings, Zach Watson, and Jordan Westburg.
