SAN ANTONIO – For the first time in the 2023 season, the San Antonio Missions took the field as the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio. Game three of this six-game series got off to a rocky start for San Antonio as Frisco plated four runs in the top of the first inning. The Chanclas offense was held hitless until the fifth inning and was kept out of the run column. San Antonio plated a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it was too late as Frisco secured an 8-1 victory.

Jackson Wolf was the starting pitcher for the Flying Chanclas. The 6’7” southpaw struggled in the top of the first inning and allowed four earned runs. After striking out the first batter of the game, Luisangel Acuna doubled to center field. Wolf loaded the bases after issuing walks to Dustin Harris and Kellen Strahm. Thomas Saggese drove in all three runners after legging out a triple. Wolf struck out the next batter before allowing an RBI single to make it a 4-0 ballgame.

Frisco forced Wolf out of the game in the top of the second inning. With one out in the frame, Evan Carter hit a single but was eventually picked off and caught stealing. The southpaw walked Acuna and was replaced by Henry Henry.

The RoughRiders added to their leads in the top of the third inning by plating three more runs. Saggese began the inning with a base hit before Aio Arias grounded into a fielder’s choice. On the play, Arias advanced to second on a throwing error. Henry issued back-to-back walks to load the bases. David Garcia drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Carter drove in two runs with a double. Frisco expanded their lead to 7-0.

Owen White was the starting pitcher for the RoughRiders. The 2nd ranked prospect in the Rangers organization did not allow his first hit of the game until the bottom of the fifth inning. Juan Fernandez ended the no-hit attempt with a single to right field. White was relieved of his duties after 4.2 innings of work. He struck out four batters while issuing two walks. John Matthews took over for White.

One of the highlights for the Flying Chanclas on Thursday was the performance of Jose Espada. Following Henry, the right-hander tossed four innings without allowing a hit. He struck out three batters and issued one walk along the way.

San Antonio plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Facing Grant Anderson, Tirso Ornelas hit a solo home run to right-center field. The long ball was his second of the year.
