OREM - A late game rally by the Rockies was too much for the Owlz, as they fell 6-5 on Tuesday night.
The Owlz built up a 5-3 lead after a three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, but could not withstand the late game run of Grand Junction.
Coco Montes hit an RBI triple to give the Rockies the lead in the opening inning. Montes then got a run of his own off of a wild pitch from starter Johnny Morell. The Owlz could not get any runs in the bottom of the first, falling behind 2-0 after one.
After holding the Rockies run-less in the top of the second, Orem got on the scoreboard thanks to an RBI single from catcher Erven Roper. With the bases loaded, Rayneldy Rosario blasted a ball up in the air. The Rockies fumbled the catch, allowing the Owlz to get their second run. The Rockies then gave the Owlz their third out, to keep the score tied at 2-2.
The Rockies came right with another run in the top of the third after an error from short stop Kevin Maitan. Johnny Morell then came up with a clutch strikeout with the bases loaded, to prevent Grand Junction from extending their lead.
Luis Alvarado came in for the Owlz to relieve Morell after three innings. In Morell's three innings, he recorded three strikeouts and gave up four runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, Cam Williams beamed a home run to left field tying the game up at 3-3. The Owlz kept rolling at plate, as Tim Millard hit a double with the bases load to score two runners and give the Owlz the 5-3 lead.
Orem brought Jacob Voss in to pitch the sixth inning replacing Alvarado. Voss gave up one run in the seventh, before being relieved by Jake Lee.
Things got tight in the ninth, after the Rockies got two more runs to take the 6-5 lead. With Del Valle on first, Alexander Martinez struck out Millard and Erven Roper to give the Owlz two outs. Mitch Spires hit a grounder which was handled by the Rockies to end the game.
