Jesus Cruz and the Palm Beach pitching led the Cardinals to a 7-2 series opening victory against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
Palm Beach was first on the board with a solo run in the third inning off a Brian O'Keefe RBI double.
Lakeland took the lead in the very next half inning, plating two runs. That was the only blemish on Cardinals' starter Jesus Cruz's line who threw six innings and gave up those two earned runs on three hits and struck out nine.
Palm Beach took no time taking the lead right back, scoring four runs in the fourth and was back on top --- this time, it was for good.
With the bases loaded, Kramer Robertson was hit by a pitch and was followed by a walk from Conner Capel. Dylan Carlson then grounded out into a fielder's choice putting runners on the corner. Robertson then came around to score on a wild pitch for the fourth and final run of the frame.
The Cardinals scored another run in the seventh inning on a Ryan McCarvel RBI single and their seventh and final run of the night in the eighth on a Dylan Carlson RBI double.
Jacob Patterson closed the game out and recorded his second save in the process after tossing three scoreless innings
Aside from his three hits, Robertson also stole two bases.
Stefan Trosclair added three hits of his own with McCarvel also adding three base hits
