PENSACOLA, FL -- Mississippi's Wes Parsons (1-2) and Pensacola's Deck McGuire (8-7) engaged in a classic pitchers' duel for seven innings Saturday night, neither wanting to yield a hit much less a run, as the M-Braves shutout the Blue Wahoos to claim a 2-0 victory.
McGuire gave up an unearned run in the fifth, and Parsons shutout the Blue Wahoos for seven innings before giving way to the bullpen. Parsons only allowed two hits, one in the fifth and the other in the seventh after an 18-minute delay due to a lighting issue at Blue Wahoos Stadium. In the end, the Braves won the game 2-0 to take a two games to one series lead.

Mississippi (6-16, 40-52) scored first when Jonathan Morales reached on an error in the fifth inning and scored on a double to left by Stephen Gaylor. The Braves plated their other run in the eighth when Gaylor and Tyler Neslony hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Gaylor then scored on a double play, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Pensacola (11-12, 51-42) got a runner to third twice, in the fifth and seventh innings, but timely defense and strikeouts kept the Blue Wahoos from scoring.
Parsons earned his first win of the season, allowing only two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in his seven innings pitched. Philip Pfeifer threw two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one walk and two strikeouts to earn his third save.
The Braves send LHP Luiz Gohara (1-1) to the mound Sunday and Pensacola counters with RHP Rookie Davis (0-0). Game four of the series at Blue Wahoos Stadium begins at 4:05 PM.
