CORPUS CHRISTI – Hooks shortstop and outfielder Pedro León was named to Major League Baseball’s Futures Game American League roster during All-Star Weekend, MLB announced today.
The 23-year-old from Havana, Cuba is making his stateside debut in 2021 after enjoying success in the Cuban National Series from 2017-19.
In 41 games with the Hooks, León is batting .229 (33-for-144) with six doubles, six home runs, 22 runs scored and 23 RBIs with 10 steals. He has made 32 starts at shortstop and five in center field.
Rated the No. 7 prospect in the 2020 international signing class by MLB.com, León signed with the Houston Astros on Jan. 15, 2021. León currently ranks second in the Astros system, according to MLB.com.
