The pitching staff shut down the Baby Cakes offense and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox reached 70 wins for the first time since 2012 in a 6-1 win over New Orleans in front of 2,435 at Security Service Field Monday afternoon.

RHP Bubba Derby (3-0, 3.69 ERA) earned his first win since June 27 by allowing one run on three hits while striking out a trio of batters over 5 2/3 innings. Wily Peralta allowed one hit in 2 1/3 relief innings, while David Goforth stranded a batter on third base to complete the victory. Overall, Sox pitching held New Orleans to two hits in the final seven innings after allowing three in the first two innings.
The Baby Cakes jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run, but Colorado Springs (70-47) quickly answered by loading the bases on a pair of walks and a single three batters into the bottom of the second. With an 0-2 count, Mauricio Dubón grounded a single to left field, scoring Chris Colabello and Brett Phillips. One batter later, René García grounded out to Steve Lombardozzi up the middle to plate Nate Orf for a 3-1 advantage.
The Sox tacked on three more runs in the later innings to pull away for good. With the bases loaded and two out in the seventh inning, Ivan De Jesus drew a walk to score Orf and give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Garcia then added to his RBI total in the eighth inning, grounding a two-run single up the middle to score Colabello and Phillips to give the catcher three RBI.
The Sox hit the road for the next four days, playing six games against division-rival Iowa at Principal Park in Des Moines. RHP Junior Guerra (1-1, 2.81 ERA) takes the mound in game one of the Tuesday night doubleheader at 4:08 p.m. MT, with RHP Paolo Espino (4-1, 4.11 ERA) making the start in game two against the Cubs.
