The Staten Island Yankees are the hottest team in the New York-Penn League heading into the all-star break, winning seven consecutive games with a NYPL-best 33-19. However, the Baby Bombers were unrepresented in the NYPL All-Star Game until now. Infielder Jose Polonia will represent Staten Island and the Yankees' organization in the 2017 NYPL All-Star Game in Troy, New York, home of the Tri-City ValleyCats, on Tuesday, Aug. 15.
Assigned to the Staten Island roster on July 11 from the Gulf Coast League, Polonia has played in 18 games for the Baby Bombers, collecting two RBIs while batting .269. Though he is primarily a third baseman, the Dominican Republic native has also played second base and shortstop this season for the Yankees.
