CHARLESTON, WV (August 20, 2018) - The Power's offense continued their hot streak behind another quality start from Max Kranick to lead West Virginia to a 9-0 shutout over the Charleston RiverDogs Monday evening at Appalachian Power Park.
West Virginia (26-28, 63-57) hung a big inning on Nolan Martinez (0-2) in the fourth. The RiverDogs' starter walked Calvin Mitchell after allowing a Travis Swaggerty single to lead off the inning. Following a Raul Hernandez single, Rodolfo Castro grounded into a fielder's choice to score Swaggerty and break the scoreless tie. Robbie Glendinning then worked a walk to reload the bases, before Luke Mangieri drew a walk and Jesse Medrano was hit by a pitch to plate two runs. Next, Lolo Sanchez roped a two-run single down the third base line that scored Glendinning and Mangieri to increase the lead to 5-0.

In the fifth, Swaggerty launched a solo shot over the left-field wall in the fifth to put the game away. The 2018 first-round draft pick smashed his first homer in the South Atlantic League and his fifth in professional baseball.
The Power extended their lead to 7-0 after Mitchell scored on a wild pitch in the sixth against Daniel Ramos.
Deon Stafford smacked a solo shot in the seventh to push West Virginia ahead, 8-0. Mangieri then laced a double down the left-field line to score Glendinning and make the lead 9-0.
Kranick (4-5) shut down the RiverDogs' (24-31, 57-66) offense. He allowed just three hits over six innings of work while wringing up five batters. The Valley View (PA) High School product recorded his third quality start of the season after retiring the 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. Through 10 starts at Appalachian Power Park, Kranick has posted a 2.66 ERA.
Joel Cesar (S, 3) closed the game out, spinning three scoreless innings to complete West Virginia's second consecutive shutout of the RiverDogs. The Power have not allowed a run in their last 22 innings. The last time the Power had back-to-back shutout wins was in a June 8 doubleheader against the Hickory Crawdads at L.P. Frans Stadium.
