Quakes rally to beat JetHawks in ninth

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on to defeat the JetHawks, 6-4, on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
The JetHawks are now one game ahead of the Quakes in the overall standings with five games to play.
For a second straight night, the JetHawks took a 4-3 lead to the ninth. On Tuesday, the Quakes scored one to tie before falling in extra innings.
This time, they put runners on first and second with one out. Ibandel Isabel hit a sinking line drive to left. Wes Rogers dove for the ball, but could not come up with it. DJ Peters scored to tie the game and then Rogers threw the ball into the Quakes third base dugout, which allowed another run to score and Isabel to advance to third. Zach McKinstry followed with an RBI single.
Peter Lambert took a no-decision despite a very sharp outing. The 20-year-old from San Dimas tossed six innings and allowed just one run on two hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out a pair. Lambert threw 70 pitches, 50 for strikes.
The JetHawks struck first with a two-out rally in the second inning. Scott Burcham doubled and Garrett Hampson brought him home with an RBI single. Rancho Cucamonga tied it on Quincy Latimore's solo homer in the fourth inning.
Lancaster re-took the lead with a couple runs in the fourth, both unearned runs. Mylz Jones doubled, stole third, and scored in the frame. Chris Rabago walked and stole second. The JetHawks made it 4-1 in the seventh on an RBI single by Yonathan Daza.
Rancho Cucamonga made it a one-run game with two runs in the eighth inning, both coming on a single by Luke Raley.
Scott Griggs (0-3) suffered the loss in relief for the JetHawks. Nolan Long (2-0) picked up the win and Tony Gonsolin earned his fifth save for Rancho Cucamonga.
The three-game series concludes on Thursday night at The Hangar with the rubber game. Right-hander Jesus Tinoco (11-4) will start for Lancaster against right-hander Chris Mathewson (1-0). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
