In the eighth inning of Tuesday's game, MLB Pipeline's No. 13 overall prospect (Rangers' No. 2) got a pitch high and inside which he greeted with a reported exit velocity of 108 mph for his first Double-A homer. Since his callup earlier in the month, the 21-year-old is slashing .348/.484/.609. Langford finished the night 2-for-3 in a 2-1 Frisco loss to Amarillo at HODGETOWN.
Since being drafted in July, the right-handed slugger is batting .341 with seven home runs across three levels. Tuesday also marked his 15th multihit game since entering the pro ranks, although hits haven't been Langford's only ticket on base. He has also worked 26 walks -- good for a 17.2 percent walk rate -- contributing to an OPS of 1.116 on the year.
A big reason for the Florida native's high draft selection was his ability to produce at the plate. Heading into the Draft, MLB Pipeline graded Langford's hit tool with a 60 on the 20-80 scale after he batted .363 with 47 homers over three seasons with the Gators. Even with just 34 professional games under his belt, it's safe to say Langford has picked up right where his college days left off.
