The Reading Fightin Phils fell to the Akron RubberDucks 5-3 on a windy night at Canal Park. The R-Phils bounced back in the in the middle of the contest, but their push just wasn't enough.
Reading started off the scoring in the top of the first as back to back doubles from Jhailyn Ortiz and Wendell Rijo plated a run.
The team trailed 4-1 going into the sixth. Ortiz notched his second double of the game and scored on a wild pitch. Kevin Vicuna singled in Vito Friscia for his first hit of the summer to make it 4-3.
James McArthur (L, 0-2) threw two and two thirds inning of work allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out three. Bubby Rossman was first out of the 'pen letting up just one hit and striking out three. Erik Miller followed giving up one run on two hits, while Billy Sullivan followed with a clean frame. McKinley Moore took the eighth and let a run, albeit unearned, across.
First pitch at Canal Park on Friday, April 15 is set for 7:05pm. Reading will send out righty Adam Leverett for second start of the 2022 debut.
